Tomball alum comes up big for Chattanooga

Kyle Douglas Russell, a 2005 graduate of Tomball High School, collected two hits to help the Chattanooga Lookouts to a 6-3 win against the Tennessee Smokies on Saturday, July 7.

At Tomball, Russell was a second-team high school all-American as a senior.

He played his college baseball at the University of Texas appearing in 175 career games for the Longhorns with a .306 batting average.   

Russell was drafted by St. Louis in the fourth round, 142nd overall, of the 2007 Major League Baseball draft, but did not sign electing to return to Texas for his junior season. In 2008, Russell hit .296 with 19 home runs and 56 RBIs, and he was named MVP of the Houston Regional of the NCAA tournament.

The following year, Russell was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the third round, 93th overall, and began his professional career with Ogden of the Pioneer League.
