HS football playoffs: Concordia Lutheran falls 42-41
The Grapevine Faith Christian Lions (10-2) defeated the Concordia Lutheran Crusaders (9-4) 42-41 Friday night in the second round of TAPPS Bracket II playoff football.
Quarterback Nathan Potter's 12-yard touchdown run brought the Crusaders within a point with 54 seconds remaining, but their two-point conversion failed. Faith Christian led 28-13 at half, but Potter rallied Concordia Lutheran. He threw two second-half touchdown passes, including a 6-yarder to Cody Huffmeister with 6:57 remaining that tied the game at 35. Lions responded. Quarterback Peter Ashton (26 carries, 320 yards) ripped off a 51-yard touchdown run to make it 42-35. It was Ashton's fifth touchdown run of the game.Crusaders' receiver Christian Wilke was the recipient of two Potter touchdown passes and Chance Gray caught the third.
Gray also led the Crusaders with 19 carries for 153 rushing yards. Eddie Brucculeri contributed 20 carries for 147 rushing yards. Jake Bahr rushed for two scores and 88 yards while catching two passes for 47 yards.
Faith Christian advances to play the winner of saturday’s Hyde Park Baptist/Parish Episcopal game.
